CAIDP Submission on Children’s Rights, Digital Environments and Artificial Intelligence in Uruguay
The Center for AI and Digital Policy (CAIDP) submits the attached statement to Uruguay’s public consultation on children and adolescents, digital environments and artificial intelligence.
CAIDP recommends prohibiting manipulative, addictive, exploitative and abusive AI practices; protecting minors’ personal data, communications, privacy and autonomy; and strengthening independent oversight, accountability and access to effective remedies. The statement also calls for child-rights impact assessments, safety and privacy by design, age-appropriate AI literacy, and meaningful participation by children, families and educators.
These recommendations are grounded in the Convention on the Rights of the Child and established international AI governance frameworks, and build on Uruguay’s existing progress.
